Wild West Clean Up

Wild West Clean Up

Blackhawk on the River employees and homeowners hit the road in May…West Mountain Road, that is. After weeks of rain, the sun was shining the morning of our fourth annual West Mountain Road Clean-Up. Joining the clean-up effort, which stretched from the intersection of Wisdom and West Mountain Road to Hait Lane, families of Blackhawk on the River worked to beautify this scenic stretch of road. Blackhawk CEO Sima Muroff said, “We are proud to sponsor the West Mountain Road clean-up, especially knowing what a difference such a small effort can make!

Another “Had To Be There” Moment

Another “Had To Be There” Moment

Jil Wickander at Blackhawk treated about a dozen people to an unforgettable night during the Full Moon Wildlife Experience on Saturday March 7th.  The evening was devoted to pointing out animal tracks, medicinal plants and tree barks, and those precious little “ahh” spots along the Payette River. Not a bad way to spend an evening.

The weather turned out to be magnificent. Puffy clouds meandered underneath the beaming moon. The conditions were so still and mild that a few trekkers had to take a layer off just to stay cool.  Amazing that one could be so comfortable outside scooting along the Payette River on a winter evening.  Perhaps a sign that spring is shortly on the way.

The group was greeted by fine desserts and wine at the end of the trip. Good conversation flowed as people warmed by the bonfire. One visitor mentioned that getting back to basics and enjoying a moonlight snowshoe is what it’s all about these days.

These kinds of moments really make Blackhawk a special and genuine place. Thank you to everyone who attended and thank you to our gracious moon for casting a warm glow on the event.

Blackhawk Hosts Nordic Skiers At River Lodge

Blackhawk Hosts Nordic Skiers At River Lodge

The River Lodge at Blackhawk served as a welcoming environment as over one hundred racers crossed the finish line and wrapped up the “Ski Marathon” event. Pictured here is Andy Andrews breezing through the 36k with a finish in one hour and forty one minutes. Nice job!

The race was held Sat Feb 21st on a new “point to point” course starting at the Little Ski Hill and finishing a thirty six kilometers later at Blackhawk (10k loop was also offered.) The course gave racers and tourers the chance to feel like they were very “out there.” People were amazed at the never before seen views of the Long Valley and the surrounding peaks.

The group was greeted at the finish line by eager applauding friends and relatives, refreshments, and a healthy bowl of the Muroff’s Family Recipe Russian Tortellinis. (Thanks Katie.)

The River Lodge provided a wonderful amenity for people to gather and enjoy the post-racing endorphins.

Take a look at our flickr photos on the front page of our blog. Drop us a note if you want a high resolution copy from our Blackhawk photographer. Thank you to everyone who attended this wonderful event!

River Lodge Construction Begins at Blackhawk on the River

River Lodge Construction Begins at Blackhawk on the River

McCall, Idaho–Construction is now underway on the new 10,000 sq. ft. River Lodge community center at Blackhawk on the River, a conservation-oriented planned community five miles southwest of McCall.

Overlooking the North Fork of the Payette River, the new facility is designed to be the central gathering spot for Blackhawk residents, featuring a fitness center, heated indoor/outdoor pool, spa treatment rooms, a media center and a naturalist center with recreational equipment available for Blackhawk owners and guests. The River Lodge also includes a full catering kitchen, banquet hall and indoor/outdoor reception area.

“I dont know of any other place in the West that has so much to offer. You have two ski resorts, several world-class golf courses and two large, beautiful lakes just 15 minutes away on either side,” says Jerry Barnett, Tamarack Resort board member/owner and property owner at Blackhawk on the River. “All these features make this a world-class vacation spot. And the River Lodge is the icing on the cake. My home here will be a legacy for my family and grandchildren.”

Epikos Land Planning + Architecture, a McCall-based firm, designed the building to reflect natural elements of the surrounding area, and respect the historical and architectural integrity of the region. The River Lodge will feature stone floors, reclaimed timber accents, and numerous water features, including a display of native trout. Epikos also incorporated architectural features that are leading the way in high-performance, sustainable design by embracing LEED principles and nanosolar technology.

“We designed the River Lodge to be the heart of Blackhawk on the River–a place where homeowners can interact with each other while enjoying the beauty of the surrounding environment,” says Wayne Ruemmele of Epikos. “So we made sure to keep the environment as untouched as possible.”

Betts Landscaping and Excavating of McCall created a special landscape design for the River Lodge that uses native indigenous shrubs, plants and trees to blend with the site’s natural surroundings, and promote & enhance wildlife habitat.

After a highly-competitive bid process, C & H Contractors, a Blackhawk preferred builder, was selected as the construction company for the project. The Cascade, Idaho, firm is known for their work on the Ashley Inn and several custom homes at Tamarack Resort, including the residence for Tamarack CEO Jean Pierre Boespflug.

“Since we began putting together the overall vision for Blackhawk on the River, the River Lodge has been a key component of the community,” says Rick Luna, Blackhawk CFO. “We’re thrilled to see it come to life.”

The Blackhawk community is located outside the area impacted by McCall’s recent emergency building moratorium. Because the moratorium does not apply to new construction at Blackhawk, construction on the River Lodge and other homes will continue as scheduled.
